“danse ep” is the first extended play of the german band bleib modern whom have surprised last year with one the best cold wave albums of the european scene, “all is fair in love and war”. 4 tracks have been remixed / re recorded specially with a “danse” approach for this magical release. the evocative guitar lines among crude but very seductive vocals plus an excellent production transports the listener immediately to an altered state of mind. the sound of the band can be perfectly compared to any of the all time big names of the cold wave and post punk.

for the 11th release 7777 presents the ghost miners remixes. for these remixes i offered each producer samples from different songs from the 2 ghost miners records. instead of doing straight forward remixes of a single song, i put forth the proposal for each artist to make their own version of a ghost miners song from scratch or using any samples they feel like. contributors include 3 of my favorite producers. 2 in demand artists, fit siegel and andreas gehm and one new comer, brian thrash. andreas gehm s version is a standard acid gehm gem. calling in the chords from the originals mixed with standard gehm acid brilliance. in fit siegel s version you ll find the perfect pure underground dance sound. featuring ray-7 on hand drums fit constructs a remix that combines elements of classic detroit and chicago sound while keeping the attitude and acid aesthetic of the original material. on the b side brian thrash, controlling his analogue arsenal, takes you on an epic acid journey traversing through the underground and space. thank you for your time. - jared wilson

liam blackburn s transformative night of visions lp as ancestral voices forged a bold new sonic identity for an influential figure on the electronic music scene. from his groundbreaking work as indigo and onto the success of akkord s hybrid electronic melting pot (with synkro), the quest for forward movement is intrinsic to everything liam produces. to further celebrate the night of visions lp release, we asked some of our favourite producers to reconstruct some of night of visions highlights in their own style. each remixer chose their own track from night of visions to work with. the first name on our remix list was swedish producer and northern electronics label head - abdulla rashim. choosing invocations , his remix focuses on the hypnotic power of the original, turning the tune into a golden loop with subtle kick drum stabs, sweeping percussion and a dangling tension that hangs through the entire 7.33 minutes. asc & sam kdc chose feathered serpent and using just touches of the original tune have masterfully built an all new backbone that demonstrates clearly the ability of the grey area sound to work at 2 different tempo s and weld together with straight techno.

returning to houndstooth a year since the release of his one sound/layer lock ep is second storey. after spending most of 2015 focussing on his collaboration with laurence osbourne second storey & appleblim present also over at r&s records, alec storey came back into the fold as part of the houndstooth 3rd anniversary compilation earlier this year. now he returns to the label in full with a gleaming new ep, bismuth.

one of the most accomplished and celebrated bands in the field of contemporary, unclassified pop music. almamegretta are masters in combining a wide range of elements such as dub, funk, reggae, world and electronica, all filtered through their own deep southern italian roots. the band from naples is now back with a new album, mixed by the dub master adrian sherwood, who had already been involved in their mid-nineties masterpiece “sanacore”. this new work consists of ten tracks, nine originals plus a well chosen cover of an old neapolitan hit by nino d’angelo transformed into a lovers rock style song. almamegretta’s original line up of gennaro t tesone, paolo polcari and raiz is augmented by a great list of collaborators and the result is a strong and multi layered set made of afro-funk numbers, reggae ballads, and other riddims, while the british dub influence remains central within the group’s wide sound palette. the title “ennenne”, which means no name, is inspired by the acronym used for those who are born from unknown parents. the right title for such a highly dense picture based on the combination of contemporary sounds and social topics.

summer deal! these two titles in the label’s catalogue carefully thread different periods in mosso’s evolution, showing the continuity of that personal sound defined by precise crafted percussions and playful melodies, appealing to the mind, body and soul. ! kander on the a side immediately sets the club pace with a rolling rhythm that serves as foundation for that classic mosso combination of riffs and counterpoints that build tension thru the song bringing it to an emotional peak before quickly stripping down back to the basics. the beat gently goes on, asking for the next ride of excitement. ! tikjda on the b side shows a similar beat, but we soon discover a completely different mood and tone. the percussions go darker, the meandering melodies become unstable and the timbres get nostalgic. a complex balance of north african drums, orchestra winds and drifting synths, build a song that proves as challenging to access as rewarding for those who give in and immerse themselves.

born in sao paulo to a deeply religious family, laercio has been around music all his life - amidst the challenges of daily life, his adventist parents would whip out all sorts of instruments whenever the situation would allow it, introducing a young and curious mind to a wide range of musical expressions. it should come as no surprise, then, that our hero quickly felt at home with notes and bars, choosing the flute as his first weapon of choice which he eagerly studied from the age of seven. even later non-musical career choices always reflected an infatuation with the world of sounds, like his stint as a capoeira teacher, combining martial arts, acrobatics and dance. with such a multi-faceted background in music, the inevitable tinkering with synthesizers and other means of electronic sound generation was rather a question of time than one of ambition, and sure enough we find laercio roaming the parties of the mid-noughties, absorbing the unique melange of styles and scales that inform club culture to this day. in stark contrast to most other rave inductees at the time, however, he never wanted to become a dj: his area of expertise is the performance, not the collecting and curating of other people s releases, and it shows in the unusual fact that laercio has held club residencies as a live electronic musician in venues like sao paulo s the edge without ever so much as touching a record. in these release l_cio has worked with d.o.c. mastermind gui boratto. and the result is music for the dancefloor.
